Mzee Kiziwi is concerned about the academic standard of Deaf graduates from High Schools. Big problem there! Why Deaf Form Four finish but Newspaper cannot read? Cannot even write a letter to family members?
Why Deaf Form Four Finish then go Karen where Standard Eight students already study?
It is true illiteracy gives job to educated Deaf like Solomon Kayia who gets 100/= for every letter he write for Deaf! But we must do something for Daef our brothers and sisters! Even illiterate Wango get help from Susan wife Nairobi University graduate.
Mzee Kiziwi think the problem is not having a Secondary School for the Deaf - many there- Kuja, Rev. Muhoro etc. but poor usage of proper Kenyan Sign Language as medium of Education. Mzee Kiziwi hear before Deaf secondary schools (Kuja, rev. Muhoro) start Deaf students study fairly well, pass, go university etc. even without sign language interpreter etc.
Mzee Bubu very very sad now Deaf Kenyans only think USA, UK after form four! Yes Deaf Kenya can go to Kenyan Universities not lowly Deaf colleges like Gallaudet!
Lets lobby with the Ministry of Education to make Kiswahili optional with Kenyan Sign Language for the Deaf people alone. I mean Kiswahili will not be removed but the Deaf are given option of choosing it with or without Kenyan Sign Language.
